Bookish Things To Quit | Top Ten Tuesday #20

I Want to Quit

1. Not Going to the Library

I want to quit not going to the library. That is, I want to start going to the library more. Books are expensive, so going to the library would save me so much money, but I don’t ever go and I don’t know why that is.

2. Avoiding Super Long Books

I tend to read more shorter books (that is, less than 500 pages or so), which means I avoid books such as A Game of Thrones and the Mistborn trilogy. I think this is so that I can read more books and keep up with my goal of reading 50 books this year. But I also really want to read those books because I’ve heard such amazing things about them.

3. Reading Instead of Doing School Work

Oops. Not even just reading, but blogging as well (in fact, I’m avoiding writing an essay by doing this post instead. Priorities.)

4. Trying to Read Multiple Books at Once

Because what usually happens is I end up choosing one over the other, and after I finish that one I never go back and finish the other. It just doesn’t ever work out for me.

5. Not Reading Assigned Books

I rarely actually read books that are assigned for school. I hate being forced to read a book that I don’t want to, so I always just don’t read them. This needs to change, though. Maybe.

6. Excessively Worrying About Keeping Books in Pristine Condition

I’m getting a lot better about this, but for a while I would care so much about making sure my books look absolutely perfect. But books are meant to be read and they’re not going to stay in perfect condition, so I want to not worry if a page gets bent or whatever.

7. James Patterson Books

I used to read a lot of books by James Patterson. Not because they were good, because they really weren’t, but because they were quick reads and kinda addicting. But I’m glad to say I haven’t picked up a James Patterson book in years.

8. The Kill Order by James Dashner

I DNF’d this book a long time ago, and it still sits on my shelf, taunting me. Part of me wants to give it another chance, but the other part of me just remembers how boring the part I did read was.

9. Caring About Reading the Book Before Seeing the Movie

I used to be so offended for no reason when people would see the movie without reading the book. Now, though, I get mad at people who think they’re better for reading the book first. It doesn’t matter. At all. I watched The Duff, and I liked the movie, but I have no interest in reading the book. I’m sure there’s more adaptations I’ve seen without reading the book, but I can’t think of them off the top of my head.

10. Worrying About How Many Books I Have/Buy

When I first encountered Booktube and book blogging, I was in awe of how many books some people buy each month. I thought that I, as a lover of books, had to buy that many a month in order to keep my status as a bookworm. That’s not true. I buy a few books a month, and they’re mostly ebooks, and that’s perfectly okay.
